My name is Alexandra McCarthy, and I am a Birmingham based illustrator. I studied at Birmingham City University where I received both a BA (Hons) and MA degree in Visual Communication. I specialise in Narrative, Life style, and Educational Illustration.

I regularly attend and promote my work at various comic conventions across the country, these experiences allow me to interact with my followers and gain an idea on popular trends. When I m not attending comic conventions I am focusing on my freelance work and managing my online shop.

I held two successful manga workshops at the University of Birmingham through zoom. The workshops were an hour long and spread over the course of a weekend. I gave step by step instructions on how to draw a simple manga face and a demonstration of various manga facial expressions. I have been asked back to teach two more classes in January 2023.

I have six months experience as a graphic artist for online slot games company, I have also just completed a children's book commission and currently working on a charity piece for the NHS. I have clients from all over the globe, primarily from the U.S.A.

I contributed two full paged comic illustrations to Frontier winner and Eisner nominated anthology comic “Sensory” published by Andrews McMeel in 2021. This was a collaboration project with other neuro-divergent artists and writers across the world. Copies of Sensory can be found in many retailers on and offline. I am currently working on my own manga series "Reluctant Hero" with an indie publisher “Band of Bards” and editor “Nicole D'Andria” from the U.S. Chapter one is due to be released online January 2023. I have also created many self published comic that I funded through successful Kickstarters.
